Prescription Advantage Update from S.H.I.N.E.
8/1/2007 - The recently signed State Budget contains provisions that allow the Prescription Advantage Program to have continuous open enrollment. This mean that you no longer have to wait until an open enrollment period is announced and you can join Prescription Advantage at any time. This no doubt is GREAT NEWS for our Seniors. The Prescription Advantage Program may reduce premiums, co-payments and will eliminate the donut hole or gap for Medicare Beneficiaries enrolled in Stand Alone Part D Plans or Medicare Advantage Drug Plans.
PRESCRIPTION ADVANTAGE IS NOT RESTRICTED TO LOW INCOME BENEFICIARES. YOU MAY JOIN PRESCRIPTION ADVANTAGE WITH INCOME UP TO $51,050 IF YOU ARE SINGLE AND $68,450 IF YOU ARE MARRIED AND THERE ARE NO ASSET LIMITATIONS&. FOR MEDICARE BENEFICIARES WITH INCOME BELOW $30,631 IF YOU ARE SINGLE AND $41,071 IF YOU ARE MARRIED, THERE IS NO CHARGE TO JOIN PRESCRIPTION ADVANTAGE&.IF INCOME IS BETWEEN $30,631-$51,050 FOR SINGLES AND $41,071-$68,450 IF YOU ARE MARRIED, THERE IS A $200 ENROLLMENT FEE IN EXCHANGE FOR A CAP ON CATASTROPHIC DRUG COSTS. IF ARE NOT CURRENTLY A MEMBER OF THE PRESCRIPTON ADVANTAGE WE URGE YOU TO JOIN NOW TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE COST SAVINGS. REMEMBER YOU WILL SAVE MONEY AND FOR THE MOST PART WILL ELIMINATE YOUR COSTS IN THE DONUT HOLE.
EXTRA HELP/LOW INCOME SUBSIDY If your annual income is below $15,312 if you are single or $20,532 if you are a married couple living together, this program will further reduce your Prescription Drug costs, you may not have to pay monthly premiums or deductibles, and you could pay as little as $2.15 for your Prescription co-payments. To qualify for this program your assets must be limited to $11,710 if single and $23,410 if married. If you feel you meet this criteria and want to apply you may get an application or apply over the phone by calling Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 or apply on line at www.socialsecurity.gov
If you need help on any aspect of your health insurance, SHINE offers free counseling at your local Council on Aging (Senior Center). Call your COA and ask for a SHINE appointment. You can reach a SHINE volunteer by phone at 1-800-AGE-INFO (1-800-243-4636). Once you get the SHINE answering machine, leave your name and number. A volunteer will call you back, as soon as possible.
