Meals on Wheels
Who's Eligible?
You can receive Meals on Wheels if you're 60 or older, homebound (unable to leave home without assistance due to illness, disability or frailty) and unable to prepare your own meal. Anyone can request Meals on Wheels for an elder who qualifies by calling the Elder Services' Nutrition Program at (508) 852-3205 or send an e mail to cminer@eswa.org.
OK, I've asked for Meals on Wheels, then what?
You can expect delivery to start within a day or two. Within a week after we receive your request, a case manager will visit the elder to explain the program and answer any questions about Meals on Wheels.
When are meals delivered?
Drivers are on the road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please allow for some fluctuation in the delivery time, as the number of meals and delivery locations change daily. Bad weather, a change in drivers, or emergency situation may also delay meals. Your patience and understanding are appreciated.
Elders must be home to accept delivery
The Board of Health does not permit drivers to leave a meal if the recipient isn't home. If you know that you will not be home to receive a meal, call the Elder Services' Nutrition Program at (508) 852-3205 by 2 p.m. at least one day in advance to cancel your meal. If we don't receive advance notice and the driver is unable to reach the elder, we will call to check if she or he is OK. Please instruct family or friends to notify the Nutrition Program in case of hospitalization. This allows us to suspend meal delivery until we hear from you.
How much does it cost?
There is a $2.00 suggested donation for each meal delivered. Recipients receive a statement at the end of the month detailing the number of meals delivered. Memorial donations and tributes are other ways of showing support for the Meals on Wheels Program.
Types of Meals Offered
Meals on Wheels are developed by a nutritionist and represent one-third of daily nutritional requirements. Special menus, such as diabetic, renal diet, and kosher, are available in the City of Worcester. Ask the Meals on Wheels staff for more information.

Money Management Program
Elder Service's Money Management Program offers one-on-one assistance with budgeting, bill paying and checking account maintenance. We provide trained, supervised volunteers who help elder clients with paperwork and forms such as those required by the Social Security Administration and insurance companies. We can also help elders who are applying for food stamps or discounts with utility companies. As a provider of Money Management services, Elder Services of Worcester Area is certified as a member of the Massachusetts Money Management Program. Here's a list of our Money Management services:
Bill Payer Services
Staff and trained, supervised volunteers assist elders with bill paying, budgeting, checking account maintenance, insurance, or income benefit paperwork. All volunteers are monitored and trained using Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and AARP guidelines.
Representative Payee Program
Elders who are unable to manage their Social Security income because of severe physical or mental limitations or whose disabilities are related to substance abuse or who have been victimized by financial exploitation qualify for this addition to the Money Management Program. Upon signing a consent form, Elder Services becomes responsible for using the elder's funds to pay his or her monthly bills as the Representative Payee. Each month, Elder Services pays rent, utilities, and insurance bills on behalf of the elder. Bills for medical needs and dental care not provided by Medicare or Medicaid can also be paid by the Representative Payee. Funds for food, clothing, and/or spending money are directed to the elder each month. This allows elders to retain control over the rest of their lives without the strain of financial management.
Eligibility
The Money Management Program services are available to anyone who is 60 or older, residing in the Greater Worcester area, or to adults in foster care who are younger than 60.
Funding
The Money Management Program receives funding from the following: Central Massachusetts Agency on Aging, Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, United Way of Central Massachusetts and donations.
