Elder Services of Worcester Annual Meeting 2003: Twenty Nine Years of Service
12/2/2003 - Worcester - Secretary of Elder Affairs, Jennifer Davis Carey, was keynote speaker at Elder Services of Worcester Area's twenty-ninth annual meeting. Sec. Carey, a Worcester resident, spoke of the state government's reorganization to improve consumer access to care and information. The fiscal year 2004 budget created a new and expanded role for the Office of Elder Affairs. One of the largest line items in the state budget is for elder long-term care services. The 2004 budget moved more than $1.4 billion of Medicaid long-term care services to the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, and made EOEA part of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
Elder Services recognized outstanding homemakers for 2003. Honored were Elba Hernandez of Family Services of Central Massachusetts, Constance Beahn of Gentiva Health Services, Elizabeth Hill of Home Staff, Cheryl Morang of Interim Health Care, Donna Pierangeli of McGinnis Health Care, Linda Musse of Medical Resources and Claire Jalbert of the VNA Care Network.
Newly elected officers of Elder Services of Worcester Area were Deborah Fins, President, Paul Bowler, Vice President, Christina Silpe, Secretary, John Staples, Treasurer and Eugene Dodd, Assistant Treasurer.
Elder Services of Worcester Area's is an expert in community based, long term care. Their mission is to help elders and their families obtain essential services so that elders can remain at home with dignity and independence for as long as possible. Elder Services of Worcester Area, a private, not-for-profit agency, is one of twenty-seven Aging Services Access Points in Massachusetts and assisted over 5,000 elders over the age of sixty from fifteen communities in the Greater Worcester area during the past year.
